Chocolate-Coffee Pear Turnovers

Decadent pastries with all the freshness of pears and the rich taste of dark chocolate.

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add pears, maple syrup, coffee and cinnamon. Cook approximately 10 minutes, stirring often, until pears are soft. Add chocolate and milk and stir well. Continue to cook 2–3 minutes until mixture is thick and syrupy. Remove from heat and spread onto a large plate. Allow to cool for 10 minutes.
  3. On a well-floured surface, roll out puff pastry and cut into 10 cm x 10 cm squares. Drop a teaspoon of pear mixture in the middle of a square. Fold a corner to the opposite corner to close, forming a triangle. Using a fork, seal sides.
  4. Place turnovers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush turnovers lightly with egg white and bake in oven 25–30 minutes or until turnovers are golden brown.
